Be more security-conscious at Yuletide, Wike warns FCT residents

.Abuja is safe, CP assures
Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has charged residents to be more security-conscious during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
In a message released through the Director of Press, FCT Administration, Tony Ogunleye, the minister pointed out: “While security has been beefed up across the territory throughout the duration of the festivities, residents are also advised to be security-conscious and reach out to the security agencies whenever they notice anything extraordinary.”
Wike, who admitted present challenges, urged residents not to lose hope.
“As we face the challenges of nation building, let us not despair as we forge ahead, but look forward with a renewed hope for a brighter future and a determination to build a greater nation for the coming generation of Nigerians.
“Therefore, let the spirit of the season, once again, serve as an inspiration for us to bridge gaps, foster understanding and build communities where every resident feels valued and included,” he added.
According to Wike, the FCT, which is a microcosm of Nigeria’s rich diversity, stands as a testament to the strength that comes from unity.
He assured that “FCTA remains steadfast and resolute in its efforts to implement projects” that enhance infrastructure, promote economic growth, and foster a better quality of life for all residents.
In the same vein, FCT Commissioner of Police (CP), Haruna Garba, has called on residents to go about their lawful duties and the celebration of the season without fear.
The call came on the heels of a recent publication credited to one Opaluwa Omera Ugbe, entitled ‘Abuja not being safe’.
He said the publication was not only misleading and false, but also a pigment of the writer’s imagination.
FCT Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Josephine Adeh, stated, yesterday: “The command, therefore, enjoins the residents to enjoy the Yuletide without any fear or apprehension.”
She noted that a robust security arrangement had been emplaced to forestall and confront any untoward situation or threat to public safety.
