The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) of the University of Ibadan, Prof. Aderonke Baiyeroju, has called on Globacom to improve the existing relationship with the university through collaboration in the areas of ICT, telecommunications services, and corporate social responsibility.

Baiyeroju made this call while receiving, on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kayode Adebowale, a team from Globacom on a courtesy visit.

The DVC lauded Globacom for providing the cheapest data and affordable telecommunication services in Nigeria.

She reiterated that UI equips its students with skills beyond academics, including expertise in areas such as Artificial Intelligence and Information Technology, as part of the university’s tradition of excellence in teaching and learning, and is striving to ensure that it remains at the top.

The professor stated that the university is willing to collaborate with Globacom in the areas of smart campus initiatives, institutional digitalization, e-learning, and structural and technological development based on its experience and expertise.

Baiyeroju noted that this visit will, no doubt, give the university and Globacom the opportunity to broaden the relationship that had hitherto existed, adding that UI is looking forward to a strategic partnership that would promote mutual benefits for both the staff and students of the institution.

Mr. Adeniyi Odejobi, the Director of Sales and leader of the team, explained that the visit was to seek further collaboration with the premier university.

Odejobi appreciated the university management for the purposeful direction, innovation, and sound learning imparted to the students.

He stated that Globacom seeks to collaborate with UI in the areas of fixed internet services, smart learning solutions, internet programming, learning management systems, seamless networks, and ICT infrastructure.

The director explained that Globacom aids the education sector through the provision of services such as sponsored data, LMS sponsored data, smart ID cards, and unique identifiers to other institutions, and desires to do the same for staff and students of the University of Ibadan.

He added that Globacom is willing to work with the university on the smart campus initiatives and the establishment of an incubation hall for training students in ICT.

Globacom, the only indigenous telecommunications company in Nigeria, is a global digital company that provides SIM cards, GPRS, and other technology facilities to Nigerians.
