Benin Catholic archbishop, others to mark 100 years of catholicism in Igbanke

The Catholic Archbishop of Benin City, Most Rev. Dr. Augustine Akubeze, will, on December 29, 2023, join thousands of Catholic faithful in a Pontifical Mass to celebrate 100 years of Catholic faith in Igbanke, Orhionmwon Local Council of Edo State.

The Catholic Archbishop of Benin City, Most Rev. Dr. Augustine Akubeze, will, on December 29, 2023, join thousands of Catholic faithful in a Pontifical Mass to celebrate 100 years of Catholic faith in Igbanke, Orhionmwon Local Council of Edo State.

Briefing newsmen, yesterday, on activities lined up to mark the event, Chairman, Central Planning Committee, Fr. Stephen Dumbiri, said all is set for the grand finale of the centenary celebration and epoch making event scheduled for December 29, 2023.

He added that Igbanke indigenes, Catholic faithful at home and abroad will converge on Igbanke for the celebration.

Dumbiri noted that the centenary celebration, which began in June with a scholarly book entitled, ‘Igbanke People, Culture And The Catholic Faith,’ was published as part of activities to herald the centenary celebration.

“All is set for the grand finale on December 29, 2023, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Idumuisi quarters.”
