Bye-Elections: ICPC arrests three suspected vote buyers in Sokoto
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) said its officials arrested three persons suspected to be vote buyers in Sokoto State during the bye-elections.
ICPC, in a statement, disclosed that the suspected vote buyers, three males aged 48, 37 and 38, were caught in a polling unit of the Yabo/Shagari Federal Constituency in the state.
The anti-corruption agency stated that the suspect was caught with the sum of N3,105,400 within the voting premises.
“All the suspects have been taken into the custody of the Commission and investigations have commenced, ICPC will work with INEC in the prosecution of the cases,” ICPC said.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducted re-run and by-elections today across 26 states in 80 local governments across Nigeria.
INEC said the elections are to fill vacancies created by the resignation, death, and removal of lawmakers via litigation from the February 2023 general election.
