The Centre for Leadership and Creative Entrepreneurs in Africa (CELCE-AFRICA) has urged the re-elected Chairman of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Alumni Association, Lagos State Branch, Adeyemo Owoeye, to prioritise community engagement and impactful initiatives during his second term.

Owoeye, popularly known as OVO, was re-elected on Sunday, 26th January 2025. His first term saw notable efforts in fostering alumni collaboration and participation through various programmes.

CELCE-AFRICA has, however, called on him to extend the association’s focus to address more pressing societal needs.

Speaking on the re-election, CELCE-AFRICA Director General, Ambassador Kingsley Enwelim Nwanze, commended Owoeye’s leadership while highlighting areas for further improvement.

“Mr. Owoeye’s tenure has created an atmosphere of inclusivity within the alumni community. As he assumes this responsibility again, we urge him to give greater attention to community engagement by leading impactful initiatives in education, health, and economic empowerment,” Nwanze said.

In his acceptance remarks, Owoeye expressed gratitude for the confidence placed in him and pledged to build on his previous achievements.

“This re-election is a call to action. Together with my team, we aim to deepen our contributions to society while strengthening the bonds within our alumni community,” he said.

CELCE-AFRICA emphasised the critical role of alumni associations in addressing societal challenges, particularly in shaping the lives of current and future students.
