Cholera kills 10 in Plateau
The Plateau State government has confirmed 10 deaths resulting from the cholera outbreak. The Commissioner for Health, Dr Cletus Shurkuk, confirmed yesterday during a live programme in Jos.
A ccording to him, the disease results from poor environmental hygiene and contaminated water. He added that Kanam and Jos North council areas have been hit by the epidemic.
To contain the malaise, Shurkuk urged avoidance of contaminated water and the promotion of a clean environment and personal hygiene. Listeners noted that public enlightenment was very key in preventing future outbreaks, urging the government to intervene in the circumstance. They added that good personal and environmental hygiene was crucial to stopping the outbreak.
