Concoction kills one at wedding in Katsina

The incident, which occurred last Saturday, saw a couple of criminal elements introduce the concoction to the wedding event, with some of the guests said to have shared in the drink.

But two of the guests, who first drank the concoction, were said to have taken ill, while one of them was said to have lost his life few minutes after being rushed to the hospital.

The deceased was identified as Illyasu Musa, 25, while the other victim, Rabi’u Sani, 16, is said to be recuperating at home.

Spokesman of the police in the state, SP Gambo Isah confirmed the incident in a statement issued to newsmen.

He said Illyasu Musa and Rabiu Sani, who drank the concoction, became unconsciousness. It said the victims were rushed to the General Hospital, Katsina, where Musa was confirmed dead while Sani was in a deep stupor.

It said the two conspired and “prepared a mixture of drug concoction which was administered to people” at the wedding event celebration. The statement said the command had arrested one Madassiru Tanimu, 18, in connection with the crime, and that Tanimu had conspired with one Nafi’u Umar, 18, who is now at large.

He added that the suspect confessed to the crime while investigation is ongoing.
