Controversy as Laribikusi ruling house faults Adegbola’s selection as Eleruwa chief
The Laribikusi Ruling House has faulted the selection of Samuel Adegbola as the new Eleruwa of Eruwaland in the Ibarapa East local government area of Oyo State.
The ruling house sought the intervention of Governor Seyi Makinde to prevent some powerful individuals from violating the institution of Obaship in Eruwa.
It would be recalled that Oba Adegbola was sacked after spending 21 years on the throne. His removal, according to the judgement, aligned with the provisions of the 1957 Eruwa Chieftaincy Declaration.
A statement by Prince Segun Oke on behalf of Laribikusi Ruling House alleged that the rotation of the throne, which has been between two ruling houses, the Akalako (female line) and Laribikusi (male line) had been compromised.
According to him, the 1958 Eleruwa Chieftaincy Declaration established the rotation, which has been maintained until the demise of Oba Bolanle Olaniyan (Gbajumola II) from Akalako ruling house in 1994.
Prince Oke said some individuals disregarded the rotation and shifted the nomination process to the Akalako ruling house, which paved the way for the return of deposed Oba Samuel Adegbola instead of Laribikusi ruling house.

He lamented that the move would be a gross injustice, as Laribikusi ruling house is next in line to produce the Eleruwa.
He urged Governor Makinde to intervene and ensure that due process is followed, as enshrined in the Eleruwa Chieftaincy Declaration, adding that the family is seeking assistance from the governor in stopping what they perceive as a violation of their heritage and tradition.
“The controversy has sparked concerns about the potential consequences of disregarding the established rotation of the throne.
“If left unchecked, this could lead to a disproportionate representation of the Akalako ruling house, with nine occupants of the throne compared to Laribikusi’s that has five.”
