The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) yesterday announced that it received 573,519 applications for its 2024/2025 recruitment exercise, just a week after the portal was opened.

This development follows the recent announcement by the Minister of Finance, Mr Olawale Edun, approving the recruitment of 3,927 officers into the NCS. Providing an update, the NCS spokesperson, Abdullahi Maiwada, shared a detailed breakdown of the applications received for general duty and support staff positions across various ranks.

He said: “Let me break down the number of applicants. We have two categories of officers: the support staff, who are professionals, and the general duty officers.

“For the general duty officers, we have three categories of ranks. Under the superintendent cadre (general duty), we received 249,218 applications. For the superintendent cadre (support staff) requiring HNDs and university degrees, there are 27,722 applications.

“For the inspector cadre, which is open to applicants with National Certificate for Education (NCE) or National Diploma qualifications, we have 115,634 applications for the general duty positions and 12,952 for the support staff positions.

“As for customs assistants, these positions are open to candidates with secondary school certificates. There are two categories here: those with basic five-credit results, including Maths and English, and those without. For general duty customs assistants, we received 153,593 applications, while the support staff positions attracted 14,400 applications.”

Maiwada noted that the recruitment process would be thorough and transparent to ensure the best candidates are selected.
