Customs seizes N71.7m smuggled items in Adamawa, Taraba
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Adamawa/Taraba Area Command seized items worth N71.7 million between August and September from suspected smugglers.
The Customs Area Comptroller, Garba Bashir, disclosed this on Thursday in Yola while briefing journalists.
According to Bashir, the seized items include 1,115 Jerry cans, each 25 litres in capacity, and 26 drums, each 220 litres in capacity, filled with petrol totalling 33,595 litres intended to be smuggled into Cameroon.
Other items listed by the Customs Area Comptroller include three vehicles used by the suspected smugglers, 200 bags of foreign flour, 50kg each, 57 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 50kg each and 10 bales of second-hand clothing.
“It is worthy to note that the PMS showcased here today were apprehended from various borderlines in Adamawa and Taraba states,” Bashir said.
“Items will be auctioned to the general public immediately due to its inflammable nature in accordance with NCS Act, 2023 and standard operating procedures.”
Meanwhile, Bashir charged the officers to be vigilant and remain fully committed to the ongoing fight against all forms of smuggling activities within the confines of the Law.
