Dangote congratulates The Guardian, Publisher on 40th anniversary
Africa’s richest man and popular industrialist, Aliko Dangote, has extended warm congratulations to the Publisher of The Guardian newspaper, Lady Maiden Alex-Ibru on the occasion of the newspaper’s 40th anniversary.
In a letter he personally signed and addressed to the Publisher he fondly called My Big Sister, Dangote acknowledged the remarkable resilience and achievements of The Guardian over the past four decades.
He wrote: “On behalf of the management and staff of Dangote Industries Limited, I heartily felicitate with you and all your staff as you commemorate the 40th anniversary of The Guardian newspaper, popularly referred to as ‘The Flagship’ among the print media in Nigeria.
“Founded way back in July 1983, The Guardian has steadfastly stood the test of time and ridden the numerous challenges in the print media industry. Under your vibrant leadership as a consummate communication consultant, you have helped build the newspaper brand to an enviable level with a nationwide circulation and global online followership.”
Acknowledging the newspaper’s pristine tradition of sustaining the finest idea of journalism, the President and Chief Executive of Dangote Industries Limited said: “In line with your famous motto ‘Conscience, Nurtured by Truth,’ The Guardian newspaper has never flinched from speaking truth to power and continuously upholding the principle of responsible journalism.
“Your organisation has been a long-time melting pot of brilliant minds, consistently turning out men and women of high intellectual calibre, even while maintaining the status quo in topnotch journalism. This is no mean feat!
“On our part, we greatly appreciate your support and collaboration over the years. As you celebrate this milestone, we applaud you for a job well done, and wish you the very best of anniversary celebrations, as you continue to add value to the print media industry in our beloved country.”
Similarly, Insight Redefini, a member of Troyka Holdings has congratulated The Guardian for the 40th anniversary. In a letter to the Publisher, Jimi Awosika, on behalf of its Chairman, Dr Biodun Shobanjo, congratulated ‘The Flagship’ for 40 years of “trailblazing professional journalism in the country.
