Danjuma committee to commence reconstruction of churches, mosques in Northeast
The Chairman Presidential Committee On Northeast Initiative (PCNI), Lt. Gen. Theophilus Danjumas, has said full reconstruction of churches, mosques and other public infrastructure and government offices destroyed by insurgents in the Northeast would commence next year.
Speaking yesterday in Yola, during the workshop on Inter-Religious Dialogue for Peaceful Coexistence in the Northeast, Danjuma, who was represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Tijani Tumsa, said delay to commence the full reconstruction in the region was a deliberate policy to ensure sustainable peace and unity among people of Northeast is in place before reconstruction starts.
He said it is only when there is peace and unity in the society that infrastructure can add value to residents of those communities.
Tumsa said the “workshop is to promote peace and support coexistence of the different ethnic groups in the Northeast.
Representative of the Chairman of Green Horizon, Prof. Ibrahim Sa’ad, said PCNI programmes, which his agency facilitates, “is to promote and support peace, justice and reconstruction and reintegration in the Northeast.”
Representative of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Rev Anthony Elishama and representative of the Muslim Council of Nigeria, Alhaji Abubakar Sahabu, called on their followers to see peace as their Bible and Quran, since both religions preach peace and unity.
