Hours after the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) announced that a building had collapsed in the Ajah area of Lagos State, with one person dead, the agency on Wednesday morning revealed that the death toll from the incident has increased to two.

In a statement titled “Final Update on the Building Collapse at Northern Vulture Estate, Chevron Drive,” the agency stated: “A young boy, about 15 years old, and an adult male recovered were confirmed dead and subsequently bagged by emergency responders and handed over to SEHMU officials.

“Also, six victims were rescued (alive) and attended to by the medical team. The collapsed building has been completely demolished and brought to ground zero with the use of the Agency’s sophisticated heavy-duty equipment (Excavator).”

LASEMA said that its search and rescue operation at the building collapse site is concluded. The agency, however, failed to provide the cause of the incident.

Earlier, LASEMA said: “On arrival of its shark team at the incident scene, it was discovered that a two-storey building under construction had collapsed at the aforementioned location.

“The immediate cause of the incident is unknown, and further investigation will be conducted.”
