DHQ orders probe into ‘unlawful detention’ of Naval officer
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has ordered an investigation into a viral video alleging the prolonged and unjust detention of Abbas Haruna, a Seaman, rating reportedly incarcerated for six years.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Director of Defence Information, Brig. General Tukur Gusau, the DHQ emphasized its commitment to justice, fairness, and the rule of law within the Armed Forces.
“The military court-martial process, though meticulous, ensures fairness, equal opportunity, and justice in accordance with established military procedures and the law,” the statement read.
The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has ordered an immediate investigation into the allegations.

The DHQ reassured the public that the findings of the investigation would be made public as soon as they are available.
Gasau also urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information, encouraging patience as the investigation progresses.
“We assure Nigerians that the Armed Forces will ensure a speedy and transparent investigation,” the DHQ said.
