Ebonyi State Government on Sunday said that it would pay N75,000 minimum wage to Ebonyi state civil servants.

In a statement in Abakaliki by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Dr Monday Uzor, he said Governor Francis Nwifuru has approved the payment of N75,000 minimum wage to civil servants in the state.

According to the statement, Nwifuru announced this shortly after a Holy Mass at Government House Chapel, Abakaliki on Sunday. The governor said the decision followed careful review of the current economic situation in the country, especially as it affects the workforce.

According to the governor, the least paid civil servant on grade level 2 will enjoy full minimum wage of N75,000 while from grade level 3 and above will get  an increment of N40,000 across board. The governor announced that implementation of the new minimum wage would commence on Monday, October 28.

Similarly, the Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Niger State chapter, Dr Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, has lauded Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, for approving N80,000 as minimum wage for civil servants in the state.

The chairman, who is also the Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, advised workers to take advantage of the governor’s civil servants farming program so as to become productive.

Recall that Governor Bago after an extensive meeting with Organised Labour last Thursday announced the approval of N80,000 as minimum wage for both state and local government workers.

Bishop Yohanna appreciated the governor for ensuring that Niger is among the top ranking states to implement the minimum wage in the country.
