As the week-long programme to mark Ebonyi Women’s Day celebration gathers momentum, the Wife of Ebonyi State Governor, Mrs Mary-Maudline Nwifuru, on Tuesday vowed to defend the girl child and wage war against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in the state.

The grand finale of the week-long programme, Guardian gathered, will end on Friday, November 25, 2024, at Pa Oruta Township Stadium, with the President’s Wife, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, as the special guest of honour.

She made this known on Tuesday in Abakaliki, the state capital, during a road walk organised as part of activities marking the 2024 Ebonyi Women’s Day Celebration with the theme ‘Uplifting Women for Sustainable Development’.

She advised the people to report any form of abuse against the girl child, women, and children to her office for necessary action.

“We are fighting for Gender-Based Violence. Ebonyi women are against any form of maltreatment, be it in the home or anywhere.

“So, if you know someone who is going through any form of maltreatment or abuse, don’t hesitate to call on us. We are mothers, and we are ready to fight against the abuses.

“We are ready to fight the perpetrators of these abuses and bring them out for judgement. We have lawyers, and we are going to prosecute anyone that maltreats women, children, and girls,” she said.

The First Lady implored women to value themselves in society by making something out of themselves.

She commended her husband, Governor Francis Nwifuru, for giving women great opportunities in his administration.
