Ahead of the September 21 governorship election, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday harvested more defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Labour Party (LP) during the continuation of its Ward To Ward Campaign in Uhunmwode Local Government Area of Edo State. This is as the PDP candidate, Dr Asue Ighodalo, promised massive infrastructure development for the people in the local government area if he is voted into office.

At the rally which held at the Edo State University, Eguaholor Campus Open Field for Isi North and South representing wards 7 and 8 respectively, a former Deputy Speaker of the Uhunmwode Local Government Legislative Arm, Pastor Asemota Wellington, dumped the APC with his supporters for the PDP. Also, a former Publicity Secretary for the LP in the local government, Mr Henry Okunoghae, and his supporters equally dumped the LP for the PDP.

The campaign train then moved from there to Ugoneki. The Open Field venue at Ugoneki turned to another carnival similar to what has characterised the campaign since it started. Gaily dressed and brightly attired supporters in branded yellow T-shirts and fez caps covered the whole venue in solid solidarity and support for the party and in particular the Honourable Commissioner for Education,Hon Joan Osa Oviawe.

Addressing the party supporters, Oviawe expressed his gratitude and joy for the show of love and support for the PDP. He charged them not to relent but continue to canvass support for the party and its candidate, Ighodalo.

There were many defectors who joined the party from the two major parties.

From there the campaign train moved to Eyean Primary School where the party hosted its supporters from Umuagbae North and South representing wards 5 and 6 respectively. Here, more defectors abandoned their former parties and pledged allegiance to the PDP.

Speaking at Eyean, Ighodalo thanked the people for the show of love and exercising so much patience by waiting for the campaign team.

He advised that the people should “shine your eyes. We cannot allow darkness into this state. PDP is light. Don’t allow them to deceive you to vote for darkness. All the problems they brought on the people is enough, we cannot allow them to spread it to our state. So vote wisely, vote for the PDP,” he concluded.
