The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Ola Olukoyede, has conferred a Posthumous Award of Bravery on Assistant Superintendent of the EFCC (ASE II), Aminu Harisu Sahabi, who was killed in the line of duty.

Sahabi was fatally attacked in Awka, Anambra State, on January 17, while on an official mission to apprehend suspected Internet fraudsters.

Olukoyede made the announcement during a condolence visit to Sahabi’s family in the Gawon Nama area of Sokoto metropolis, Sokoto State. He expressed the commission’s deep sympathy and solidarity with the bereaved family.

“As a commission, we share in the pains and grief of the loss, but we cannot question the time that the Lord calls us home. The late Sahabi was a gallant officer full of promise and in the service of his fatherland when he met with the tragic incident. Indeed, Allah gives and Allah takes,” Olukoyede said.

The EFCC boss assured the family that the late officer’s sacrifice would not be forgotten and that those responsible for his murder would face justice. He also delivered a condolence letter on behalf of the EFCC and the Federal Government.

“I want to assure you that the family will not be forgotten as I will make time to visit intermittently because, for us in the EFCC, we are a family. We have finished processing the benefits of the late officer, which will be released to the next-of-kin immediately,” he said.

In response, Justice Mohammed Lawal Shuaibu of the Court of Appeal (JCA), who spoke on behalf of the family, appreciated the EFCC chairman and his team for their support.

He commended the commission for its intervention in conveying Sahabi’s remains for burial and for naming a building at the EFCC Academy, Abuja, after the late officer to immortalise his sacrifice.

The EFCC chairman was accompanied by senior officials, including Commander of the EFCC, CE Ahmed Pate, and Acting Director of the Sokoto Zonal Directorate, DCE Nwanneka Nwokike.

Upon his arrival at the EFCC Sokoto Zonal Directorate, Olukoyede inspected a guard of honour and held meetings with commission officers.
