Ekpa threatens month-long lockdown in Southeast over Kanu’s detention

Finland-based pro-Biafra agitator, Simon Ekpa, has threatened that the Southeast will embark on a month-long lockdown of government offices in the region if Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), is not released.

Ekpa, who disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, said the decision was reached during a virtual meeting organised by members of the proscribed Biafra Republic Government in Exile.

According to him, the lockdown is set to commence from August 28, 2024, to September 26, 2024.

He explained that the lockdown would affect all Nigerian government offices in Imo, Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, and Anambra states in the Southeast region.

Ekpa demanded the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu and all other Biafrans detained by the Nigerian government, as well as the demilitarisation of the Southeast.

“The Biafra government has just approved the lockdown of Nigerian institutions in some parts of Biafra following the continued killings of Christians and Biafrans within Biafra territory, invasions of churches, and abductions of worshippers.

“The Biafra government has decided to lockdown the following Nigerian institutions in some parts of Biafra territory for 30 days, from August 28, 2024, to September 26, 2024.

“We demand the total withdrawal of all Nigerian security forces from Biafra territory.

“We demand the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and all other Biafrans detained in various locations in Nigeria, including in the far North,” he stated.
