#EndBadGovernance: Group seeks dialogue with FG

Following President Tinubu’s nationwide address to protesters of the #EndBadGovernance protest, a group of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) have called on organizers of the protest to enter into negotiations with the Federal Government.

Country Director of Owojiri Network Consult, Lawal Bayero, noted that in light of the destruction of property that followed the protest and the hijacking of the same by hoodlums, dialogue is the best way to proceed in solving and meeting key demands of the protesting youth.

He stated this at a World Press Briefing in conjunction with Young Alliance for Good Governance (YAGA) and the Center for Reform and Public Advocacy, on Tuesday in Abuja.

He said, “Young Nigerians have thronged into the streets to protest against hunger in the land and bad governance.

To this end, properties have been destroyed and a wave of violence is engulfing states across Nigeria.

“This unfortunate incident is getting more and more troubling, hence our patriotic call urging all parties to cease hostilities and engage in constructive dialogue with the government.

“Urging the protesters to seize the opportunity and dialogue now that the federal government has offered a leeway in its willingness to dialogue, which we, the three assemblage of CSOs as a third force, are strongly advocating for.

“Bayero said, “Mr. President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, having addressed the nation a few days back, indicates strongly that he is indeed a listening leader.

“In doing this, he did not only reel out the giant strides recorded by his administration but went ahead to extend an olive branch to the protesters for dialogue.

“Responding to questions on why the President did not address the issue of subsidy removal reversal during his address to the protesters, co-organizer of the briefing, Onwe Wisdom, explained that all critical issues can only be addressed at the negotiating table, which is why the coalition is calling for such dialogue among the warring parties.
