The Enugu State Police Command has announced the arrest of about 100 kidnapping suspects in the state in 2024.

It also disclosed the arrest of over 130 armed robbery suspects, 55 murder suspects, and more than 111 individuals for unlawful possession of firearms during the same period.

The State Police Commissioner, Kanayo Uzuegbu, while reviewing the operational achievements of the Command for the year, expressed gratitude to the citizens of Enugu State for their unwavering support. He also outlined the policing priorities for 2025, emphasizing enhanced security and public safety.

Highlighting the Command’s 2024 accomplishments, Uzuegbu revealed the arrest of over 130 armed robbery suspects, 100 kidnapping or abduction suspects, 226 suspects involved in cultism, and 450 others linked to various crimes such as burglary, stealing, and fraud.

“Furthermore, about 100 kidnapped or abducted victims were rescued. Items recovered included over 200 firearms, including 21 AK-47 rifles, one submachine gun, and one G-3 rifle; 1,863 rounds of ammunition; and 124 vehicles comprising motor vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles,” he stated.

The Commissioner expressed profound gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for his resounding guidance and overall support.

He also appreciated the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, for providing material and moral support to the police throughout the year.

Uzuegbu commended the citizens for supplying credible and actionable information that significantly aided operations.

He acknowledged the collaborative efforts of sister security agencies, the Neighbourhood Watch Group, Forest Guards, local vigilantes, and hunters. He further praised the personnel of the Command for their resilience, dedication, and bravery, which contributed to the year’s successes.

He, however, mourned and prayed for the repose of the souls of those who paid the ultimate price with their lives in the course of the year’s operations.

Reassuring the people of Enugu State of the Command’s commitment to professional, community-driven, proactive, robust, and results-based policing, Uzuegbu called on citizens to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and supportive of the police and other security agencies. He wished everyone a fruitful and fulfilling 2025.
