A former presidential candidate in the 2019 general election, Dr. Obiageli Ezekwesili, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari not to shirk his responsibility as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces by refusing to give account of his stewardship to Nigerians at this moment of national crisis.

Ezekwesili stressed that President Buhari should show leadership even as she urged the leadership of the National Assembly to invite the President to address the lawmakers and the Nigerian public on his administration’s strategies towards containing coronavirus pandemic and the global economic shock that came with it.

In a statement made through her spokesperson, Mr. Ozioma Ubabukoh, the former Minister of Education noted that “Nigeria is at war against a rapidly escalating pandemic of coronavirus and an increasingly distressed, deteriorating and declining economy.”

She regretted that “the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Buhari, is missing in action,” asking the position of the president on the severe national challenge.

Ezekwesili, who is also a Co-convener of Bring Back Our Girls, stated: “Fellow Citizens, it is grossly irresponsible of Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari, to hide away from addressing and assuring his citizens at a time like this when leaders of other nations are doing much more.
