Empowers widows, students, others in Ogbomoso

The family of the late Brig.-Gen. Benjamin Adekunle, yesterday, empowered widows, students, as well as less privileged, in Ogbomoso Oyo State. The initiative was part of the 10th-year remembrance of the late Civil War hero, which took place at the palace of the Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Olaoye.

The family donated cash gifts, clothing, school uniforms, exercise books, sandals and foodstuff to widows, and students, among others. The eldest daughter of the deceased, Busola Olagunju, emphasised the family’s mission to alleviate the impact of economic hardship faced by many in the country, saying: “This event aims to provide support for those in need during these challenging times.”

She highlighted her father’s commitment to helping others, saying: “Our father was a strong pillar for our family and always extended assistance to both relatives and strangers. Today’s event focuses on orphans, the needy, and widows, reflecting his core beliefs.”

Also in his welcome address, the son of the deceased, Olusegun Adekunle, said that the empowerment serves as a fitting tribute to the late Ashipa of Ogbomosoland. He assured the attendees that the family would continue to carry out meaningful initiatives to keep Adekunle’s memory alive.

Meanwhile, the Soun of Ogbomosoland and Onpetu of Ijeruland, Oba OladapoOyediran, were represented by their traditional chiefs. A community leader, Dr Saka Balogun, Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, Ogbomoso, Dr Taofeek Adekunle Abdulahmeed and a retired military officer, in their separate remarks, said that the late Adekunle played a significant role in ensuring the unity of Nigeria and commended the laudable gesture of the Adekunle family.
