Family releases funeral rites for Wigwe, wife, son

The family of Herbert Wigwe has announced the burial rites for him, his wife and his son.
The trio died in a chopper crash some weeks ago in the United States. The former Chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group), Abimbola Ogunbanjo, was also aboard the helicopter and was part of those confirmed dead in the accident.
According to the programme, the funeral rites for the Wigwes will commence with a tribute to Herbert Wigwe’s professional legacy at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos, on March 4, 2024.
Separate ceremonies to honour Wigwe’s wife, Chizoba, and son, Chizi, are scheduled for March 5 at the Eko Hotel, Lagos, followed by a night of tributes on March 6 at the same venue.
On March 7, a combined service of songs will take place at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Resurrection Parish, Lekki, followed by a Christian wake-keeping at Wigwe University, Isiokpo, Ikwerre Council of Rivers State.
On March 9, 2024, the funeral and private interment service for the three Wigwes will be held.
The final leg of the programme will be an outing ceremony at the RCCG, Lion of Judah Parish, Isiokpo, Ikwerre Council, Rivers State, on March 10, 2024.
MEANWHILE, Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has paid heartfelt tribute to the late Wigwe, affirming the profound impact he had on society.
Fubara expressed his administration’s determination to immortalise him as a distinguished son of the state.
The governor made this commitment during a night of tributes held in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, an event organised by the Port Harcourt City One Love Family to reflect, celebrate and eulogise the life of the late Wigwe.
In a statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the governor, Boniface Onyedi, Fubara lamented the double loss incurred with the passing of Wigwe, highlighting his roles as an in-law and a trailblazing son of the state.
Fubara urged residents and politicians in the state to live a life of value, be at peace with people and avoid cruelty, because life is a mystery.
