Family unveils N25m educational fund in honour of Akanmu

The family of Prof. Ismail Ibraheem has launched a 25million fundraising campaign in honour of their deceased father, Alhaji Ibraheem Bolarinwa Olapade Akanmu, who died on Friday, August 16, 2024 at the age of 87.

The deceased was a secretary of Ede Descendants Union in Ibadan in the 80s. The initiative was launched at the third day fidau prayer for the deceased held last Sunday at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), where well-wishers as well as family members offered prayers for the repose of the departed.

Speaking at the gathering, Prof. Ibraheem, who is the first son and Director, Office of International Relations, Partnerships and Prospect (IRPP) at the University, said the idea behind the project was an instruction their late father told them to carry out after he would have passed on.
 
He noted that their father, during his lifetime, prioritised education, especially both Islamic and Western, adding that, this order was a testament to his father’s commitment to the course. He recalled how his father always inspired the children to be religious, adding that his love for the word of God (Al Qur’an) was abounding till his last minute.

He also advised the public to always visit the grave, as one of the traditions of the Prophet, which helps to soften the heart, provoke the consciousness of the unbridled pursuit of worldly affairs.

He said: “Visiting the grace will soften the heart and when you remember death and you remind yourself of the day you are going to depart this world, that will bring tears and assist you to do amendment and correct your ways.”
