The senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Senator Ireti Heebah Kingibe, Heebah Kingibe, has attributed the growing insecurity to the rising levels of youth unemployment.

Kingibe emphasised the importance of youth empowerment as a pathway to sustainable development and investing in the future.
Kingibe disclosed this in Abuja during a youth training session themed ‘Training Youths of the FCT Senatorial Zone on Various Skill Acquisitions and Entrepreneurship’. The programme was organized by the Senator in collaboration with the Federal Polytechnic, Ukana, Akwa Ibom State.

She explained that the programme was designed to address economic challenges and reduce unemployment by equipping young people with practical skills in various trades and entrepreneurship.

Kingibe, who was represented by her Special Assistant on Special Duties, Amb. Emmanuel John Destiny revealed that over 100 youths from across the FCT are being trained and empowered to establish businesses based on their acquired skills.

The senator said: “The essence of this gathering today is to reduce unemployment and empower the youth. The unemployment rate is alarmingly high, which contributes to the insecurity in our country.

“This week alone, this is the second empowerment program. A few days ago, we were in Abaji; today, we are in AMAC to support more young people and help create entrepreneurs.”

In her remarks, the Head of Feslom Consultant & Engineering Limited, Victoria Godwin, urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the training opportunity.

She encouraged them to apply their skills to benefit their communities and emphasized starting small as a pathway to growth.
She said: “A total of 100 participants are being trained across five sections, including fashion and design, hairdressing, barbing, and chemical production. This training is based on the participants’ interests, and they are also being empowered to turn these skills into sustainable ventures.”

One of the beneficiaries, Abdulwahab Navigation, expressed gratitude to Senator Kingibe for initiating the programme.
“I have learned how to take accurate measurements for clothing and assemble dresses properly. By God’s grace, I will create a dress and send it to the Senator to show her the impact of this training,” he said.
