FG targets April for ECOWAS road completion

Federal Government is targeting April 20 to complete the rehabilitation and expansion of the first phase of the Lagos/Badagry Expressway, otherwise known as ECOWAS Road.
The 24.3 kilometres section, awarded to China Geo-engineering Corporation (CGC), has reached 80 per cent completion.
Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, who disclosed this, yesterday, while on an inspection tour to assess the progress of the project, said the road was first awarded in 2018.
He stressed that the Federal Government would focus on phase one, based on the availability of funds.
The Minister, who also led an entourage to inspect other projects in Lagos, commended President Bola Tinubu for his various interventions in road projects across the country.
He said: “So what we met on the ground was two lanes in each carriageway. It’s been expanded to six lanes on each carriageway. We can see that the contractor has done over 80 per cent of the work.
“The project has been reviewed. Let’s not forget that the entire project, phases one and two, were awarded in October 2018 at a contract sum of N63 billion. And then what we have done is to concentrate on section one, 24.3 kilometres.”
On Section Two, he said the ministry would make a report to Mr President to take a decision.
“Each should do their section so that we complete our section to set the border. And the tolling can also be in line with the sections you have completed,” he added.
