FinTribe pushes capital market inclusion, gifts 10,000 stock units to UNILAG students

Financial technology firm FinTribe has encouraged greater participation in the capital market among young Nigerians, distributing over 10,000 units of stock to selected female students of University of Lagos (UNILAG).

The initiative formed part of the firm’s engagement at the Ladies’ Day 2.0 event organised by the Management Students’ Association (MSA) on the university campus on Monday.

According to the company, the stock distribution is aimed at exposing students, particularly young women, to investing and deepening female participation in the capital market.

Founder of FinTribe, Jennifer Awirigwe, who spoke as guest speaker at the event, said the initiative aligns with the company’s campus outreach programme across universities in Nigeria.

She said the programme was designed to equip students with the knowledge, confidence and access needed to build wealth and participate meaningfully in the capital markets.

Awirigwe noted that the distribution of the stock units was intended to encourage first-time investing among the beneficiaries, adding that it reflects the firm’s commitment to ensuring that more women not only understand investing but actively participate in wealth creation.

She urged students to cultivate healthy financial habits early, understand the capital market, and embrace investing as a pathway to long-term financial independence.

Head of Marketing at FinTribe, Sandra Adebayo, said students remain central to the company’s mission of democratising investment opportunities.

According to her, financial decisions made at the student stage could shape future economic stability, stressing that the outreach programme goes beyond education to enabling practical ownership of investments.

She said the company’s distribution of over 10,000 stock units at UNILAG was part of efforts to move more women from merely learning about the capital market to becoming active participants.

Participants at the event also engaged with the firm’s team, registered on its platform, and received practical guidance on how to begin their investment journey.

Adebayo added that the UNILAG engagement is part of FinTribe’s wider Campus Outreach Initiative, which takes financial literacy and investment opportunities directly to tertiary institutions.

She disclosed that the company had earlier visited Obafemi Awolowo University, where it introduced students to investment education and distributed learning materials.
