First Lady advocates unity among women to bridge leadership gap
The First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu has charged women to unite and actively support one another to bridge a huge gap in female representation in politics and leadership position.
She gave the charge at the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s Women National Summit and Dialogue held on Saturday in Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports
the summit themed, ‘Empowering APC Women For Leadership and National Building” was also attended by Hajiya Nana Shettima, the wife of the Vice President.
“My charge to you all today is for women to unite and actively support each other, especially when pursuing elective positions or advancing in leadership.
‘ Let us rally round one another, provide necessary encouragement, support and understanding,” she said.
Mrs Tinubu said the role of women in leadership is crucial to national development because their insights, experiences and perspectives are valued for providing essential feedback in ensuring that the needs and aspirations of citizens across the nation are addressed.
“The Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu places a strong emphasis on creating opportunities for women to thrive economically, socially, and politically.
“In this administration, we have witnessed increased representation of women in key positions within our party and government.
“This is a proof of the hard work, resilience, and determination we exhibit as women and we must continue to push forward in unity,” she said.
The first lady thanked all the women for their commitment, passion and support towards the party and the current administration.

She specifically appreciated the convener of the summit, the APC National Women Leader, Dr Mary Idele and the Deputy National Women Leader, Hajia Zainab Ibrahim and members of the party’s executive for organising thr event.
Idele, in a welcome address called on the women to do more for a better future for the country as a whole.
She noted that the present administration, had witnessed increased representation of women in key positions within the party and government.
Idele also complained of a huge gap in female representation in politics and leadership position in the country and called on more support for women to thrive.
Another party leader, Engr. Noimat Salajo-Oyedele, the Deputy Governor of Ogun State in her address called on the women to be united.
“Our presence in leadership today is not by accident; it is the result of the tireless efforts of strong, determined women who came before us.
“Despite incredible challenges such as societal resistance, exclusion, and often hostility, they pressed on for us to have the
opportunities we have today,” she said
