First Lady empowers 1,000 petty women traders in Niger
The Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) of the wife of the President, Oluremi Tinubu, has empowered 1,000 petty women traders with N50,000 each across the 25 council areas of Niger State to enable them to overcome some of their business challenges.
Mrs Tinubu, while flagging off the empowerment and disbursement of palliatives to people with disabilities and vulnerable groups in Minna yesterday, acknowledged the challenges faced by Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), especially the petty traders, who form the backbone of local economies.
by the wife of the governor, Hajiya Fatima Umaru Bago, the First Lady noted that the challenges have overwhelmed women. She had saluted and celebrated the women for their courage and resilience.
Her words: “Today, through the Renewed Hope Initiative Economic Empowerment Programme, we are providing 1,000 pre-selected petty women traders per state with a grant of N50,000 each to recapitalise and grow their businesses. A total of N1,850,0000,000.00 has been disbursed to 37,000 petty women traders across the country.”
She explained that the grants were to assist the traders to expand their businesses and create more jobs, as well as contribute more robustly to the economy.
Tinubu emphasised that economic empowerment remains a core objective of the Renewed Hope Initiative to support the economic reforms of her husband’s administration. She advised the beneficiaries to deploy the funds judiciously.
