Former Special Adviser to former President George Bush of United States on Science and Technology, Chief Emeka Ken Nwabueze and his wife, Ugonne, have pledged to commit more time and resources towards the development of Ogidi community in Anambra State.
Nwabueze, who holds the chieftaincy title of Ajie Okpala Ogidi, made the pledge recently when the traditional titled women groups of the community,Otu Ekwe and Otu Odu inducted his wife into theIyom Osodieme Ogidi forum.
Speaking during the ceremony held at his residence, Nwabueze explained that they were motivated by the visionary leadership of the traditional ruler of Ogidi, His Royal Highness Igwe Pharm. Alex Onyido, Ezechuamagha of Ogidi.
According to him, the traditional ruler has galvanised the community into an era of peace, development and progress through his open door policy, consultative approach and accommodating disposition to other people’s views.
He said: “Igwe Ezechuamagha has shown that he was chosen by God to uplift Ogidi ancient kingdom with skillful leadership. He doesn’t move alone like a dictator in taking decisions and actions. He always consults with Ogidi people to seek our views and opinions with listening ears on the issues that are important for the development and progress of Ogidi. That is the mark of a good leader and the results are very impressive and clear.”
Nwabueze, who prayed for the long life of the monarch, urged the titled women to take advantage of the current atmosphere of peace, development and progress in Ogidi to make more contributions to the welfare of the community especially as it concerns rural women and the girl child.
He advised them to regularly organise free medical services, seminars and workshops to educate the women and girl child on health issues, family building and businessethics, among others.
While congratulating his wife for her new traditional title, he mandated her to bring her exposure and experience to bear on the affairs of the group, assuring her of his unalloyed support.
In her remarks, Ugonne appreciated the traditional titled women for considering her worthy for the twin title, assuring that the recognition and induction would always inspire her to join hands with her husband to continue to make more contributions for the development and progress of Ogidi ancient kingdom and its inhabitants.
Before decorating Ugonne with all the paraphernalia of Otu Ekwe and Otu Odu, the matron of the titled women, who is also the wife of the traditional ruler of Ogidi, Iyom Patricia, explained that the titlesare meant for women of track records who have made good marks in their families, kindred, villages and the community.
She noted that Ugonne was decorated with the two titles because she met the requirements, adding: “The title is also a call for higher service because by taking the title one has accepted to move to a higher level that demands more commitment and more responsibilities.”
