Four burnt beyond recognition in Olodi Apapa fire incident
Four unidentified individuals were tragically burnt beyond recognition in a fire that engulfed a building in the Olodi Apapa area of Lagos over the weekend.
While the cause of the fire is yet to be determined, sources have suggested that the inferno began at a lounge, with the entire structure razed to the ground.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident, stating that it occurred on Sunday morning, around 7:50 a.m. He said, “On 13/10/24 at about 07:50 hours, a call was received at Tolu Division reporting that at approximately 07:45 hours, a fire had broken out at a lounge on BaaleTiad, OlodiApapa. Following the report, teams of police officers and firefighters were swiftly mobilised to the scene, and the fire was successfully extinguished.”
Despite the efforts of the emergency teams, four staff members of the establishment, whose identities are yet to be confirmed, were found burnt beyond recognition.
Their bodies have been evacuated to the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) Morgue in Yaba for autopsy. The cause of the fire and the value of the destroyed property remain unknown. Police authorities have assured the public that an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
