Freedom Radio pioneer staff rekindle memories at 2024 reunion in Kano
The pioneer staff of Freedom Radio, Kano on Sunday marked the 2024 annual get-to-gether, and reunion of old friends and professional colleagues.
The social reunion was held at one of the top class restaurants in town where the old staff took ample time to dine and unwind in a serene environment.
Like the previous reunion, the 2024 edition was not less fun as old friends of ‘Muryar Jamar’ exchanged banters, refresh on sweet memories while recalling historic moments shared at their former workplace.
The end of year gathering also afforded the pioneers privilege to remember their former colleagues who have passed away during the years and raised financial support for families of the deceased as well as those incapacitated.
Addressing the gathering, Chairperson of the pioneers Hajiya Maryam Mohammad explained the annual reunion has provided a large opportunity for members to foster spirit of love, and unity among each other.
Satisfied with the yearly gathering, the former Freedom radio news editor, hinted that the get-to-gether had enabled a special platform for reconnection with colleagues where participants rekindle the good old days.
” It is a period I always look forward to see old friends, colleagues and family members I have had cause to work with for several years in Freedom radio. Despite the distance, I wouldn’t like to miss the reunion for anything.
” The gathering also provided the opportunity to support families of late colleagues and some of us who are in need of help. Through individual voluntary contributions at a period like this, we have raised funds to render the assistance and we have the record,”
Hajiya Mohammad explained.
Affirming the support of the pioneers to former staff who are in need, Hajiya Maryam Aminu, a former news editor highlighted names of the beneficiaries of the yearly benevolence including families of late staff and others in critical financial distress.
On his part, Publisher of Solacebase who also served as head of news desk at Freedom radio advocated endowment fund through crowd financing among the pioneers to substantially raise support to those incapacitated.
In a similar vein, Ado Mohammad Abubakar, a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Chartered Accountant and former Chief Accountant of Freedom radio suggested standardization of the platform for future opportunities.
Speaking on behalf of Freedom radio management, Assistant General Manager, Engineering, Engr. Jamilu Ibrahim said the former staff remains worthy ambassadors of Freedom radio and would continue to cherish the legacies set.
“Even after your departure from the station for other opportunities, everyone is already on freedom radio hall of fame as ambassadors of the organization. The management still held past members in much higher esteem because they left imprints behind”. Engr. Ibrahim noted.
Those who graced the 2024 reunion were Jamila Hamisu Maiiyal, Baba Shitu, Maryam Aminu, Hadiza Abdullahi, Dr. Halima Umar Sani, Dr. Yazid Ado Ibrahim, Hussaina Umar Na’abba, Engr. Safiyanu Dauda, Engr. Umar Mustapha Dalhatu
and Engr. Muhammad Inuwa JIka.
Other were Samira Suleiman, Hajiya Maryam Muhammad, Asmau Adamu Aliyu, Aminu Wada Dandago, Ibrahim Garba, Malam Bashir M Inuwa, Maimuna S Bello, Hajiya Asma’u M Iliasu, Bello Sani, Abdullateef A Jos, Ado M Abubakar, Engr Abdulsalam, and Abubakar General.
The colourful occasion was also graced with the presence of Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, Director General, Media and Publicity, Government house, who doubles as spokesperson of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The Kano state gubernatorial aspirant in 2023 general election, and former member, House of Representatives, representing Kano Municipal, Shaaban Ibrahim Sharada who was unavoidably absent at the reunion sent a good will message to the occasion.
The 2024 reunion would go down in memory lane with the extraordinary display of Ibrahim Garba, popularly called “The Ice Man”, a one time super host of Freedom radio flagship morning program, at the reception.
Ice man served as master of ceremony and lit up the atmosphere with funny characters and renditions that kept participants delighted as the event lasted.
