Ekaette Umoh’s influence extends far beyond the confines of a single industry. As a faculty member at prestigious institutions such as the Enterprise Development Centre (EDC) of Pan Atlantic University and the African Centre for Leadership, Strategy, and Development, Ekaette has imparted knowledge and wisdom to countless participants, shaping the minds of future leaders. Simultaneously, her leadership roles in various professional associations and her remarkable achievements in the banking and microfinance sectors have earned her the title of “The Profitability Queen,” a testament to her unwavering commitment to business excellence.

As the pioneer General Manager of Ibom Leadership and Entrepreneurial Development Centre (Ibom-LED) Uyo, Ekaette has played a foundational role in shaping leadership and entrepreneurial development in the region. Her work spans from educating future business leaders to steering small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) toward profitability. Her influence is a blend of academic excellence, business acumen, and a deep commitment to empowering others.

At the heart of Ekaette’s career is her role as an educator. Serving as a faculty member at the Enterprise Development Centre (EDC), Pan Atlantic University, Lagos, and the African Centre for Leadership, Strategy, and Development, Abuja, Ekaette has made significant contributions to the academic community. Her teachings extend beyond the classroom, influencing the lives of students, fellow educators, and broader society. As Ekaette herself puts it, “Education is the cornerstone of empowerment. Through teaching, I strive to unlock the potential within each individual, guiding them towards their paths of success.”

As the immediate past President of the Lagos Business School Alumni Association, Northern Zone (2019 to 2023), Ekaette led with a vision that prioritizes collaboration and excellence. Her tenure as Vice President of NECA’s Network of Entrepreneurial Women (NNEW) further highlights her dedication to empowering women in business. Although her role was over five years ago, the impact of her work continues to resonate. Ekaette’s passion for empowering women entrepreneurs remains evident in her ongoing mentorship and advocacy efforts.

Ekaette’s title as “The Profitability Queen” is well-earned. With over fourteen years of experience in banking, including a significant stint in the microfinance sector, she has demonstrated a unique ability to navigate the complexities of finance and entrepreneurship. Her journey from founding and running a microfinance bank for eight years to serving as the National Treasurer of the National Association of Microfinance Banks (NAMB) reflects her expertise and leadership in the financial sector. Reflecting on her journey, Ekaette says, “Profitability is not just about numbers; it’s about creating value and ensuring that businesses can sustain their growth while contributing to society.”

Ekatte’s books, Aspire: Starting a Successful Business and Those Teenage Years, are highly acclaimed for their practical advice and inspirational tone. These works reflect her deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities in entrepreneurship and personal development. They serve as valuable resources for anyone looking to navigate the complexities of starting a business or guiding teenagers through their formative years.

Ekaette has also been a respected voice in the media, sharing her insights on platforms like Money Show with Nancy on AIT, where she made several appearances. Although not frequent, her contributions were impactful.

Additionally, she was a regular on the radio program Jela’s Clinic, where she addressed business-related questions from listeners, further cementing her reputation as a trusted business advisor.

In March 2024, Ekaette was honoured to be included in the prestigious Annual List of 100 Leading Nigerian Women. This recognition is a testament to her influence and leadership in various fields. It underscores her commitment to excellence and her role as a trailblazer for women in business and leadership.
