Funmi Falana seeks budgetary allocation for children, orphanages
A women’s rights advocate, Mrs Funmi Falana, (SAN), has advised the federal and state governments to begin making special provisions for children and reputable orphanages in their annual budgets.
Mrs. Falana, the Director, Women Empowerment and Legal Aid (WELA), also called on the Federal Government to develop policies and programmes that will bring succour to Nigerians and ease the pains of the present economic hardship in the country.
The wife of human rights activist, Femi Falana (SAN) spoke in Iyin Ekiti, Ekiti State, after holding her annual Christmas party with the children of Erelu Angela Adebayo Children’s Home.
The Lagos lawyer and his wife Funmi, after the event, paid a courtesy visit to the Senator representing Ekiti Central senatorial district at the national assembly, Opeyemi Bamidele, at his home in Iyin Ekiti in Irepodun/Ifelodun local government area of the state.
She said the period was dedicated to showing love and giving hope to the children and urged all well-meaning Nigerians to do the same.
Mrs Falana, who presented cash gifts, food items, soft drinks, and beverages to children, said such a special budgetary allocation would enhance the effective running and management of such homes.
“Every money at the disposal of the government is kept trust for all Nigerians, the less privileged and the vulnerable persons like these ones should be taken care of.”
She said the harsh economic situation in the country is biting hard on the people and urged the governments to do something urgently to address the situation.
She attributed the recent stampedes that claimed children and other people’s lives in Ibadan, Anambra state, and Abuja recently to poverty.
The Director of the Child Development Department, Ekiti State Ministry of Ministry of Women and Social Development, Mrs. Bolanle Asubiojo, and the orphanage Matron, Mrs. Modupe Ajayi, in their remarks, appreciated Mrs. Falana for supporting the children and the orphanage for over 10 years.
Asubiojo prayed that God would abundantly reward Falana with blessings of long life and prosperity.
