The Federal Government, through the Bank of Industry (BoI), is to disburse N1 billion loan to boost Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across the 20 local council areas of Bauchi State.

The government had earlier announced a N75 billion intervention fund to enhance small businesses across the federation. Speaking in Bauchi yesterday, the Project Officer of BoI, Kabir Saidu Musa, confirmed that the application was ongoing, advising interested Nigerians and entrepreneurs to apply via online.

Musa said apart from the loan, the government had earlier disbursed N50,000 grants to beneficiaries across the 20 councils of the Northeastern state. According to him, benefiting SMEs were selected by the bank’s focal person attached to the state government.

His words: “For the FGN intervention that is currently ongoing, it is fully online. Those whose applications are successfully submitted will be redirected to our office, and then we will verify them. We will give them a call if necessary, visit the business and make recommendations for the final approval of the application.”He explained that the loan would be repaid within three years and six months moratorium, with a nine per cent interest.

Also, the Representative of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), Bauchi office, Abdulrasheed Aliyu, said the agency provides business development services and business clinics to the beneficiaries for judicious utilization of the funds.

He said this is necessary in order to utilise the money for the purposes it was meant for. He added that the training became necessary to avoid the diversion of the funds by the beneficiaries.

SIMILARLY, Governor Uba Sani OF Kaduna State has reassured Nigerians of President Bola Tinubu’s determination to eradicate poverty in the country. He, therefore, appealed to those responsible for empowering the poor in the country at an occasion where the BoI disbursed grants and loans to residents to boost their businesses.

The governor spoke at a town hall meeting on the Presidential Grants and Loans Scheme for Small Scale Medium Enterprises (SSMEs), organised by the Federal Government, in collaboration with the BoI, in Kaduna, yesterday.

Represented by his Special Adviser on Economic Matters, Ibrahim Tanko Mohammed, the governor said the initiative was evidence that the President was a listening leader, who cared for small and medium-scale businesses and their success. The event, which was in respect of the N200 billion Presidential Intervention Fund, was attended by citizens from the 23 local councils of the state.
