Group plans clean cooking forum in Abuja
The Nigerian Alliance for Clean Cooking (NACC) in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Environment, and others, said they plan to organize a national cooking technologies forum in Abuja to promote clean energy sources.
NACC Executive Secretary, Osamede Precious Onuvae, in a chat with The Guardian, said that it would commence on 9th October in line with the Paris 2024 portfolio, aimed at significantly reducing greenhouse gas and preserving the ecosystem.
Onuvae also explained that the project which began three years ago, will replace traditional cooking practices with more efficient cookstoves curtailing deforestation, saving families money, improving air quality in homes, and providing women with greater autonomy.
She added that the national fair is jointly sponsored by Nigeria Energy Support Programme (NESP), Heinrich Boell Stiftung, Atmosfair Climate and Sustainability Limited, Toyola Energy Group, UP Energy, EfD Nigeria, SMEFunds, and other stakeholders.
According to her, key policymakers, private sector leaders, research institutions, civil societies, users of clean cooking technologies, and international partners will discuss strategies for improving access to cleaner cookstoves and fuels across the country at the event.
“With an overarching goal of accelerating energy transition, the event will focus on innovations in clean cooking, unlocking investment, and empowering communities to adopt sustainable cooking practice, while participants will be apt to engage in discussions.”
On the current state of clean cooking in Nigeria, the NACC Executive Secretary stressed that they are working to share best practices and contribute to the development of the implementation plan for the National Clean Cooking Policy in Nigeria.
“The two-day event will feature exhibitions showcasing the latest clean cooking technologies and fuels, side events on critical issues such as climate action and energy access, and business-to-business networking opportunities to foster collaboration and investment.
“Nigeria Clean Cooking Forum is a step towards a cleaner, healthier future for all citizens. The improved cooking stoves have previously been manufactured in Nairobi, Kenya, and then being distributed throughout Nigeria. From this year; they are built directly in Nigeria,” she said.
