Vice Chancellor, Igbinedion University Okada (IUO), Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye said 36 students bagged First Class Degrees out of 691 at her 21st Convocation ceremony saying the university has continued to blaze the trail in delivering quality education.

Ezemonye who spoke during the institution’s 21st Convocation ceremony, said the University since its inception has graduated over 16,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students.

The Vice Chancellor said 842 students comprising 691 undergraduate and 151 Postgraduate students have been added to the list of distinguished graduates of the university.

“The breakdown of the undergraduate students showed that 36 are in First Class, 299 students in Second Class Upper Division and 205 in Second Class Lower Division. There is none in Third Class, while 150 earned unclassified degrees (Medicine and Surgery and Pharmacy).

“Significantly, out of the graduating students in this category, 4 had distinctions in Pharmacy. In the Postgraduate category, 51 are for Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree, 93 for Masters’ degree and 7 for Postgraduate Diploma,” Ezemonye said.

Ezemonye noted that the ivory tower is not only improving visibility in the area of research and innovation but added that the University now has 55 undergraduate programmes housed in 34 departments and 24 Postgraduate programmes.

He said that the institution under his watch has been consistent with its passion for quality assurance in quality education delivery, adding that all programmes run by the institution are fully accredited by NUC and relevant professional bodies.

“It is noteworthy that the University played host to a number of accreditation panels from NUC, MDCN and other professional bodies during the year under review with successful outcomes,” he said.
