Assistant Comptroller General (ACG), Zone A of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kunle Osisanya, has warned men of the service against frustrating passport applicants.

Osisanya made the call yesterday during his familiarisation visit to the Festac passport office.

In his words: “It has become a habit all over the country that when the discussion comes to passport, immigration officers are usually condemned, but I see it differently because I am privileged to have been working for long in the system to know that immigration officers are doing enough for the success of passport issuance in Nigeria. I know the extra hours we put in; I know the commitment and dedication many put into ensure that applicants get their passports.

“For years, people apply for passports in some of our neighbouring countries and they are not successful, some in the ECOWAS countries are hanging around because they can’t get their passports sorted out in their countries. In the entire West Africa Sub-region, we stand out when it comes to passports so, I salute our men, but nevertheless, nothing is perfect, those areas members of the public have complaints, I expect us to do more to address them.

“The applicants are kings, they may be difficult at times but they are always right. So, we have to treat them with the highest level of professionalism and courtesy.

He said: “The kind of information we divulge to the public matters a lot; we must be careful of what we dish out to the public, especially the use of social media. You must desist from using social media to disseminate official information.

“We have no choice but to prepare our mind to start accepting applicants with complete documents. No point in trying to frustrate any applicant, we must continue to do our best.”
