Inferno Kills Six In Plateau State

Plateau state mapSIX persons lost their lives in an inferno at a residence in Jos, the Plateau State capital, yesterday. The blaze was said to have started at about 12am after electricity supply was restored, following a blackout.

According to a family member of the deceased, the voltage was unusually high, causing a spark, which resulted in the fire. The deceased, it was gathered, included grandsons and daughter of one late Dr. Dalhatu Arab. They were: Mrs. Habiba Ahmed Dalhatu; Dalhatu Ahmed, five; Maryam Ahmed, three; and Ahmed Ahmed Dalhatu, one.

The two others were the younger sister to Ahmad’s wife, Rukayya Umar Hamza, eight, as well as their housemaid, Maryam. Head of the family, Alhaji Ahmed, popularly known as Sarki, said he was away when the incident happened.
