International observers call for cancellation of Rivers result
International election observers on Sunday called for the cancellation of the Governorship and House of Assembly elections in Rivers.
The leader of African Centre for Leadership Strategies and Development, Mr Humphrey Bekaren, who spoke on behalf of the observers, made the call in Port Harcourt.
He said the observers were shocked that INEC disregarded the widely reported violent irregularities to begin the process of declaring results in the state.
‘’ We request all lovers of democracy to join us in calling for the outright cancellation of the phony election.
‘’ Unless this is done, we would have sown the seed that could eventually grow into providing a shade of fear and death over us,’’ he said.
According to Bekaren, what happened in Rivers was a far cry from what election should be.
‘’ What we saw did not meet international standard of electioneering, not even the ones set by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC,’’ he said.
He said there were reported incidents like deliberate delays and diversion of electoral materials, attacks on electoral officers, widespread arson and voter intimidation.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner for Rivers, Mrs Gesila Khan, said INEC cancelled election in centres with reported electoral malpractices.
She said re-run elections took place in six local government areas in the state where electoral malpractices were reported. (NAN)

If you are qualified engish teacher, u can go back to class room. We are not there to know who is a good constructor of english. Upon all your degrees you are still an applicant. When the Oba of Lagos openly threatened Igbo people to vote for his candidate or end up in Lagoon, was not that an intimidation. So the election has to be cancelled becase a cross section of the people were intimidated. They are international nonsense.

Correct bros. Kano, Jigawa, Katsina, Kaduna, Bauchi, etc turn out bogus numbers of vote cast for APC by the massive use of under age voters. No Observer has say anything about it. This is unacceptable.

..so called children in the North may appear underage (underscore appear because the noise about underage voting came from the South-South’s observations of the pictures of the voters) because Jonathan’s regime have ensured that they are malnourished – so an 18 year old may look much younger. Funny but true….it may be interesting to see how many people actually ate amongst the masses that voted that day by geography and you’ begin to see what Nigerians have been enduring in the last 6 years of destitution, poverty, corruption and insecurity…
You people are giving Buhari a steep mountain to climb. Nigeria will not produce more Petroleum than her quarter, will not sell above international price. States can’t pay workers salaries except Lagos, Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom because of oil misfortune. We are waiting for Buhari to print Dollars. Less than 6months this whole story will change. It may even be worse if oil pipelines are compromised. We in Niger Delta are laughing and watching
Do you only determine age by physical structure? It means you need to travel to some asian countries and see for yourself that you ve just spew jargons.
More So, where date of birth not on the PVCs? And is it not a requirement, to have attained the age of 18 before registration and issuance of PVCs.? Is better you check for what is called ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENT or take INEC to court for giving cards to underage instead of mis-informing people on the platform.

There is no reason to join issues with you on what everybody saw. Even Buhari said he didn’t expect Mr President to have accepted the result. You can contest video based evidence where children were hiding their faces from TV cameras, it doesn’t matter
Humphrey Bekaren’s call for outright cancellation of the entire Rivers State election is totally uncalled for and lopsided. It thus appears Humphrey has interest in the Rivers State election beyond observation? or is he saying that in the entire State, i.e in all the electoral wards and all the local Government Areas everything went wrong? that not even one ward got it right? Haba, Humphrey!!!!
Otunba, were people slaughtered and buildings burnt in Lagos despite the fact that OPC backed Jimi Agbaje? Have you been to Buguma? Did you record over two hundred thousand votes in Apapa local government alone. Appraise what you know.
Do not blame this Man. Trust Nigerians, his name and the organization may have been dropped to compose this kind of report. The International observers do not reel out reports of this nature. Something is not right. They have no stake here; hence they can not either directly or indirectly be asking for any election cancellation, when they know it is going to be termed meddlesome.
That sham is not fit to be called an election but selection. Highly contested States like Lagos, Edo, Sokoto and others did not witness wanton destruction of lives and properties. Which local government in the entire Nigeria has recorded over two hundred thousand votes in this election, not even in kano not to talk of asari tori with Buguma as headquarter. With the killing and violence that took place including burning of Inec office as reported, how and when was accreditation done. Asari is time to talk, you are an Amachree and Buguma is partly your home. The Amayanabo of Kalabari lives in Buguma and could not have been betrayed. The so called election should be cancelled and conducted by neutral parties. What a disgrace!
The same as in Borno and Adamawa states which are war-torn and most of the indigenes as refugees in Tchad, NIger and Cameroun recording 90% voters turn out in the presidential. These observers are just completing their paid contract. They should have seen the ballot paper thumb printing videos which went viral, or the under aged who lined up and voted.
Thank God Buhari “won”, otherwise, the war in the north would have made ISIS operation minced meat.

Amaechi has corrupted the election observers like he corrupted Soyinka and the nigerian media. There were massive irregularities even in the north against PDP but it is only in Rivers that Gov Amaechi wants to stand history on its head. Given th geographic an ddemographic factors, Wike from the majority Ikwerre will defeat the minority Peterside. Every one in Rivers State knows this!
