The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNMW), Kaduna State Branch, has called off its indefinite strike action that commenced on October 2, 2024.
In a circular issued to its members, NANNMW urged nurses and midwives to resume work starting at 12pm on Friday, October 25, 2024.
The decision to end the strike was made following a successful negotiation with officials from the Kaduna State Government.
A meeting on Thursday, October 24, with the Deputy Governor, Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, led discussions with union leaders and key government officials that led to the suspension of the strike.
The meeting had the Secretary to the State Government, the Head of Service, and the Commissioner of Health in attendance.
In the meeting it was announced that the governor has directed a committee on Labour matters, headed by his deputy, to expedite negotiations regarding the new minimum wage with the Labour unions within the next seven days and to submit a report for implementation.
The demands of the health workers would be taken into account in the new minimum wage negotiations which highlights the government’s dedication to tackling their concerns and ensuring better working conditions.
