The Kano State Government has begun the demolition of illegal structures erected on government land across the state.

The operation, led by the Kano State Task Force on Development Control, targets buildings constructed without the necessary permits on government-owned properties.

Speaking on Wednesday at Kwankwasiya city, the secretary of the task force, Hameed Sidi, said the exercise was part of the state’s efforts to reclaim and safeguard public spaces for developmental purposes.

Sidi explained that the committee identified over 10 illegal structures at Kwankwasiya city.

He said that the task force would focus on areas identified as hotspots for unauthorised constructions.

Sidi said that affected property owners were given adequate notice to vacate the premises before the demolition began.

The secretary warned that the operation would continue until all encroachments were removed, emphasising the need for compliance with land use laws.

“We are committed to restoring order and ensuring that public land is used for its intended purpose,” the secretary said.

He urged residents to visit the Ministry of Land and Physical Planning to update their old land title documents.

According to him, the recertification will ensure the accuracy and security of land records, protect investments, and help resolve disputes. The secretary also called on landowners to comply promptly with the process.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the task force demolished a duplex in Guringawa, Kumbotso Local Government Area, and marked additional plots and houses to halt construction.
