Kogi’s heavy investment in education strategic– Commissioner

The Kogi Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr Kingsley Fanwo, says the government’s strategic investment in education aims to ensure no child is left behind financially.
Fanwo made this statement while speaking to journalists in Lokoja on Sunday.
He highlighted the government’s commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure and building quality human capital in the state.
“The Kogi government, under Gov. Ahmed Ododo, is dedicated to strengthening the knowledge economy and fostering a resourceful population.
“The New Direction Agenda of former Governor Yahaya Bello prioritised education, allocating significant funds and establishing specialised institutions.
“The Ododo administration is building on that legacy, ensuring children from disadvantaged backgrounds have equal educational opportunities,” Fanwo explained.
He reiterated that education remains free, from primary through secondary levels, with the government covering internal and external examination fees.
“Bursaries are provided to thousands of students at the higher education level. Kogi is outspending 23 other states in education in 2025.
“When comparing our education budget with our population, it is evident we are one of the most committed states to education,” he said.
The Commissioner assured that these initiatives are not temporary.

According to him, by signing the Education Bill into law, the government has made free education up to secondary level and tertiary bursaries legal rights for every Kogi child.
“This Education Law guarantees continuity, ensuring future administrations will build on the momentum to make Kogi a knowledge hub,” he added.
Fanwo also confirmed that major construction projects are underway at all state-owned tertiary institutions to improve the learning environment.
He said that securing MBBS accreditation for CUSTECH would drive a healthcare revolution in the state.
