Kwankwaso promises tougher times for APC in Kano
You’re desperately seeking relevance, party replies ex-gov
The 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has said the party can relegate the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano.
Besides, the leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement vowed to diminish APC’s influence in the next general elections, reducing further its vote counts of the 2023 presidential poll in the state.
Kwankwaso boasted on Wednesday while receiving NNPP members from Kano North Senatorial District, who were at his Miller Road residence in Kano.
The two-term governor, emphasised the political strength of NNPP in Kano and other northern states, maintaining that, if the party could be formidable enough to send APC out of power in the last general election, it would receive the worst embarrassment in 2027.
He said: “If PDP could struggle hard to secure only 15,000 votes in Kano in the 2023 presidential election, APC will not only receive below expectation but the most embarrassing votes in 2027 elections in Kano.
“NNPP achieved tremendous success in both presidential and governorship elections despite being a new political platform with a late start to its campaign, APC will be diminished in Kano in 2027.
Kwankwaso challenged loyalists to redouble their dedication to grassroots mobilisation to solidify NNPP’s position as a dominant political force in Kano and beyond.
He encouraged his supporters to remain focused on delivering results that would secure the party’s success in future elections.
Leader of the delegates, Alhaji Abdul Abdullah Bichi, told journalists that they were at Kwankwaso’s home to renew their loyalty to him and distance themselves from former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi.
Bichi, who was reportedly part of a new political movement formed by the ex-SSG, urging Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to stand firm and reject Kwankwaso’s alleged influence on his administration, said they had parted ways with the former scribe.
RESPONDING, the Kano chapter of the APC has described Kwankwaso as a refugee politician desperately seeking relevance in the country.
Its chairman, Prince Abdullahi Abbas, in a statement yesterday, observed that the claim by the ex-governor to significantly reduce APC votes in Kano State in 2027 was not only ridiculous but laughable.
Calling on Kwankwaso to stop “day-dreaming and channel his energies towards reclaiming his membership in the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP),” APC described Kwankwaso as a political refugee that cannot be accommodated by any political party worth its salt in the country.
It warned Kwankwaso and his ilk that it would not allow a repeat of the “vote manipulation and allocation that created the impression that the NNPP is well-rooted in Kano State in the 2023 general election.”
