Kwara creates two new ministries

The Kwara State government on Wednesday announced the creation of two additional ministries.
The two ministries are the Ministry of Transportation and the Ministry of Livestock Development.
The news to this effect was conveyed after the weekly executive council meeting.
The meeting was presided over by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq. The state government explained that the restructuring was to enhance efficiency, improve coordination, and align governance with the state’s growing development priorities.
The decision was made at a cabinet meeting presided over by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
According to the state government, the memorandum was presented by the Acting Head of Service, Alhaji Ibrahim Muhammed.
The state cabinet stated that the Ministry of Livestock Development has been carved out of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The memorandum said: “The move is aimed at bolstering food security and strengthening livestock development across Kwara’s 16 local governments, refocusing attention on the challenges associated with large-scale livestock farming.”
According to it, the new ministry will play a crucial role in supporting farmers, herders, processors, and distributors across the livestock value chain.
It stated: “The council also approved a proposal to carve out the Ministry of Transportation from the Ministry of Works and Transport.”
The restructuring, it said, was intended to establish a more effective and well-organized transportation management system, ensure seamless mobility for residents, and optimize the state’s expanding infrastructure network.
The council also tucked the State Road Traffic Management Agency (KWARTMA) under the Ministry of Transportation rather than the erstwhile Ministry of Works.
With these adjustments, Kwara State now has 22 ministries.
Meanwhile, Governor AbdulRazaq has forwarded the names of two commissioner-nominees to the State Assembly for approval.
The nominees are Senior Special Assistant, Community Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, and Senior Special Assistant, Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), Mariam Nnafatima Imam.
