KWARD-C advocates for women’s inclusion in governance

The Women’s Advocacy for Research and Documentation Center (WARD-C) on Wednesday underscored the importance of social justice, equity and women’s inclusion in governance.
Mrs. Hassana Kpetu, Team Lead of WARD-C in Niger, said this during a courtesy visit to Malam Mohammed Idris, a Niger State House of Assembly member representing Tafa Constituency.
She explained that the visit was part of activities commemorating International Women’s Day, aimed at highlighting women’s achievements in various fields.

According to Kpetu, WARD-C’s primary objective is to promote gender equity and create opportunities for women to occupy strategic positions in government.
As part of the visit, she introduced Prof. Juliana Dauda, the first female professor of criminology in the state, who hails from Tafa Local Government Area (LGA), to the lawmaker.
She described Dauda as a capable, diligent, and competent individual, well-suited for leadership roles.
In her remarks, Mrs. Hauwa Ijah, Permanent Secretary for Economic Affairs, praised Dauda’s achievement, calling it a historic milestone for Niger.
She urged the legislature to continue supporting women to enable them reach greater heights.

Dauda expressed gratitude to WARD-C for facilitating the introduction to the legislature, which she said would aid her efforts in promoting educational development in Tafa.
She also appealed to the legislature to establish a center for training children in information and communication technology (ICT), highlighting the need to equip young people with digital skills.
In response, Hon. Idris reaffirmed his commitment to supporting women, emphasizing that they were strong pillars of society capable of overcoming challenges.

He disclosed that over 100 children in Tafa LGA had already been trained in digital marketing and pledged to continue such initiatives.
Additionally, WARD-C visited Faruq Isah, Clerk of the Niger State House of Assembly, to seek his support in the fight against Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
Isah assured WARD-C of his commitment to supporting efforts aimed at reducing GBV to the barest minimum.
