Lagos Assembly urge ministry to clear drainage channels, canals

The Lagos state House of Assembly on Tuesday called on the Ministry of Environment to commence the immediate clearing of drainage channels and canals across the state.
Kehinde Joseph, a lawmaker representing Alimosho Constituency 2, raised the issue at the House under ‘Matter of Urgent Public Importance’ at plenary.
Joseph said it is very important for the Ministry of Environment to immediately clear drainage channels and canals across Lagos due to the heavy rains in the state.
According to the lawmaker, heavy rains in Lagos state as predicted by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, (NIMET) have damaged some houses in his constituency.
Joseph added that some buildings have been submerged by flood while so many properties have also been destroyed.
The lawmaker complained of blocked drainage channels and canals, saying there was a need for the Ministry of Environment to act urgently.
He also called on the Ministry of Information to carry out the sensitization of Lagosians to stop the indiscriminate dumping of refuse.
