Lagos government re-seals 12 buildings in Banana Island

The Lagos State Government has re-sealed 12 buildings in the Banana Island area of the state while also removing two other illegal fences.

General manager of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), Gbolahan Oki announced this on Friday.

Oki said the affected structures were sealed as a result of the failure of their developers to obtain planning permits and removal of government seals.

LASBCA sealed the buildings in collaboration with the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA) and the State Taskforce as a follow-up to the Governor’s directives, Oki said.

Oki stated that the ongoing removal and sealing of the buildings in Banana Island and other parts of the State is geared towards compelling compliance on the part of the building public to ensure that sanity is restored to the built sector.

On April 12, a seven-storey building under construction in Banana Island collapsed while workers were at work.

During the rescue operation, a corpse was recovered under the rubble and some days later, Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, ordered the demolition of illegally built structures in Banana Island.

Sanwo-Olu had also blamed the collapse of the seven-storey building on the “reckless” operations of some developers who got illegal approval from federal government agencies.
