Ignore govt’s letter on illegal council

Osun State Government has written an official letter to the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), urging the office to give due recognition to the newly elected Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) local council chairmen and councillors as the legitimate representatives of the state’s councils.

The letter, authored by the Secretary to the State Government, Teslim Igbalaye, was also sent to the Auditor-General of the Federation, Shamsedeen Babatunde, and the Central Bank’s Governor, Yemisi Cardoso, to intimate them and financial institutions to engage exclusively with the newly elected council officials following a subsisting court judgment that removed the previous council chairmen.

However, the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), yesterday, urged the AGF, Ogunjimi and Cardoso to ignore the letter.

The APC, which described the letter as shameful, contended that the PDP’s council bosses were impostors, who lacked locus standi to be introduced as legitimate public officials.

This was contained in a statement signed by the APC’s Director of Media and Information in Osun State, Kola Olabisi.

“We urge your good offices to consign the dubious letter of introduction of the power-mongering clowns from the Office of the Secretary to the Osun State Government into the trash basket as it has no basis under the law, “the statement stated.
